Lahai Lawrence Leema, the Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, on the 3rd April 2021 commissioned a borehole in Motema Town, Bandafafeh Section, Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono district.
Sahr Edward Bundor, Town Chief of Motema expressed gratitude to the Minister and all others for honouring their call. He added that clean and purified water is a major constraint to the people of the township especially during the dry season. “We are very grateful to you sir and we pray that God continue to elevate you. You have proved to us that indeed you were born in this town and we pray that you continue to help us as we have so many challenges like recreational center, electricity, youth empowerment to name but few,”. Chief Bundor said.
Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, Hon. Lahai Lawrence Leema commended the people of Motema for such a great welcome and proudly presented himself as a son of the soil disclosing how he was born in Motema town and started school in the town before he migrated to Kenema due to the outbreak of the civil war. “Motema is my home, I was born here and I am proud to always identify myself as a son of Motema,” he told those in attendance.
He disclosed that the Government of Sierra Leone made pro forevision for one hundred (100) boreholes to be constructed in Kono District but said unfortunately, Motema was not among the selected towns to benefit from the project.
The Deputy Minister continued that the leadership of the Motema Action Group Foundation approached his office and pleaded with him to help them, adding that in response to their request, he then approached his colleague Minister of Water Resources and pleaded with him to help his home town of Motema which materialized into what he will be commissioning.
Leema furthered that he is also a member of the Motema Action Group and he will continue to support the cause of the organization. He promised the people of Motema that he will always do his best to attract any development project that is allocated to Kono district for Motema to benefit.
He called on the people to take good care of the borehole as it will serve them for a very long period if they take good care of it. He further stated that he is aware of the fact that this one borehole with eleven different pumps allocated in different areas in the community is not enough but said he is sure that it will be of great help to the residents.
The National Chairman, Motema Action Group Foundation, Joseph E. S. Mbaina gave a synopsis of the Motema Action Group Foundation, saying that the group was established on the 26th October 2019 by a young lady, Rugiatu Sesay.
He continued that Madam Sesay shared her vision with the current CEO of the group who is currently in the United States of America, Augustine Tamba Kanjia and the Chief Adviser of the group who is the wife of the former Inspector General of Police, Francis Munu.
Mbaina further explained that the aforementioned people embraced the initiative and decided to support the vision bringing others on board.
“I want to commend the efforts of the former President of the group, John Tumbay for his leadership role during his tenure. Tumbay resigned his position due to his current workload and he is unavoidably absent in this gathering and I was appointed to act as chairman for the group,” J. Mbaina revealed.
He further disclosed that there are new plans for the group but those plans cannot succeed if there is no peace, support and togetherness amongst all and sundry.
